TIPS FOR SEPARATION

Some tips to reduce separation anxiety in young children

  • In the morning take the time to explain to your children what might happen throughout their day. For example "Today you are your friends are going to have fun playing outside in the garden"

  • Try not to draw out the time spent dropping off your children. Hand them over to a member of the team who will help distract your child and engage them in activities to move their attention away to something exciting.

  • Although it's difficult to leave your little one when they are upset, try to keep goodbyes short and sweet - although don't sneak away without saying goodbye either!

  • Allow your child to bring a transition toy with them. Having something familiar may help them settle.

  • Try to remain calm and relaxed, children are receptive to how you're feeling so project confidence and happiness.
If you are feeling anxious yourself, try not to show this to your child.

  • Trust us! We deal with children every day and have experience in these situations. We will distract and soothe your child, encouraging them to join in other activities.

  • Try and keep to the same routine for the first few weeks.
